Ginebra, la ciudad del agua

Las aguas del Lago Léman reflejan la serena belleza de Ginebra, una pequeña urbe incompatible con las prisas. Sede europea de la ONU, abanderada de la tranquilidad y del lujo sin estridencias, la ciudad suiza invita a relajarse en sus playas y parques y a descubrir la sobria elegancia de su centro histórico.

Estambul, mil ciudades en una / Istambul, a thousand cities in just one

El embrujo oriental cautivó a los exploradores europeos del siglo XIX, fascinados ante palacios otomanos como el de Topkapi, el barrio de Sultanahmet, el Gran Bazar, la Mezquita de Sulimán, en el barrio de Süleymaniye, o la monumentalidad de Agia Sofia. Ahora, en pleno siglo XXI, quien llega a Estambul alberga encontrarse también con esas coordenadas ineludibles... pero el Estambul de hoy, una megaurbe de 14 millones de habitantes en la conviven mezquitas y palacios con locales de vanguardia, museos y tiendas ultramodernas, acoge otros mundos por descubrir, otros rostros de esta ciudad milenaria.

The city´s oriental enchantment captivated european explorers during the19th century, all fascinated by Ottoman palaces like  the Topkapi, the neighbourhood of Sultanahmet, the Great Bazaar or the monumental Santa Sofia. Now in the heart of  the 21st century, whoever comes to the Istanbul will still find those complelling places. But present-day Istanbul is also a major city with 14 million inhabitants where Mosques and local vanguardist palaces, museums and ultramodern shops co-exist, and other worlds are yet to be discovered,  other faces of this  city. 

Bergen (Noruega), el umbral de los Fiordos / On the Threshold of the Fiords

Así suele presentarse a esta ciudad, la segunda en importancia de Noruega, pero sería una impertinencia y una lástima pasar de largo por ella sin explorar sus múltiples rincones, más allá de las casas multicolores del Bryggen, el puerto medieval hanseático. La vitalidad del Mercado de Pescado, las panorámicas de la ciudad que brindan el funicular Fløibanen y el monte Fløyen, así como la pasión de Bergen por el arte –con coordenadas ineludibles como la colección de pinturas de Edvard Munch del Museo de Arte de la ciudad- la convierten en un destino de primer orden. Claro está, tras exprimir la ciudad, nada como adoptarla como punto de partida para descubrir los fastuosos fiordos, tales omo el Hardangerfjord y Sognefjord, por supuesto, disfrutando de los paisajes que ofrece el inolvidable recorrido ferroviario del tren de Flåm.

That's how this city is often presented, the second largest in Norway. But it would be a pity and a shame she passed along without exploring its many corners, beyond the famous painted houses of Bryggen, the hanseatic old port. It’s worth waiting to cross the threshold that separates it from the fjords and discover them step by step.

Montpellier, cuando mil años no es nada / When 1.000 years is not much

A town with a millennial history, Montpellier holds treasures such as the Faculty of Medicine,  the palacettes, the medieval mikvé and the city’s historical town centre filled with alleyways and sunny parks and the drive of thousands of students.  Languedoc’s capital is positively a destination one must live one and a thousand times.

Copenhague, ciudad de contrastes / Copenhagen, city of contrasts

When visitors arrive at the train station, they have the feeling the city`s divided in two: on the one hand, it’s the perfect scenery for any tale by Hans Cristian Andersen and on the other, a cosmopolitan, lively,  ecological and modern city.
